Free radicals and toxins accelerate the process of aging. These are hard to combat and have been proven to cause some long-term ailments as well. With the help of a gentle exfoliator, you can rid your hair and skin of these harmful by-products of our environment.

One such exfoliator is Rhassoul clay. For years it has been used as a natural cosmetic ingredient. The Atlas Mountains in Morocco are the only source of this magnesium-rich clay. Read this blog to know more about rhassoul clay and how your hair and skin can benefit from it.

What Is Rhassoul Clay?

Rhassoul clay is formed due to geothermal activities that take place in the Atlas Mountains. It is a brown-colored wash-off product that Moroccan women have been using for centuries. While not many studies have been dedicated to it, many ancient cultures swore by its benefits.

The Romans and the Greeks highly regarded it for its healing and skin preserving properties. They used it for its medicinal purposes as well. North Africans, however, used it solely for beauty purposes.

Rhassoul clay or the ghassoul clay is a stevensite, which means that it has a high concentration of magnesium, potassium, silica, calcium, and other minerals. This natural mineral clay has a unique mineral composition that gives it its healing properties.

It is similar to bentonite clay as it is negatively charged, swells when it comes in contact with water, and has a silk-like texture.

Benefits of Rhassoul Clay for Hair and Skin

The Moroccan red clay or rhassoul clay offers a number of benefits for hair and skin. Rhassoul clay is great for hair and skin detoxification. While most of the results associated with it are anecdotal, the following benefits are quite evident:

Rhassoul Clay for Hair

Rhassoul clay boosts high levels of minerals that have blessed it with conditioning and remineralizing properties. Its negatively charged particles efficiently draw out toxins. It does its work without stripping off the natural oil that our bodies make.

Rhassoul clay offers various benefits for hair:

  • It is nourishing and softens hair naturally.
  • It adds to the curl definition as well.
  • It acts as a gentle exfoliator and eliminates dead skin cells from your scalp without being harsh.
  • It helps in balancing the sebum production that causes dandruff.
  • Anyone who is suffering from skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis should consider this 100% mineral clay.
  • Rhassoul clay can be used as a natural hair wash. It is brimming with saponins, found in ingredients like reetha, that lather and clean your hair without any added alkalinity. This natural shampoo removes oil and dirt from your scalp and adds volume to flat hair.
  • The conditioning properties offered by rhassoul clay makes it an ideal ingredient for ‘do it yourself’ (DIY) hair masks. You can simply mix it in water and apply it all over your scalp and hair. It will unclog the hair follicles and condition your hair. It also promotes hair growth.

Rhassoul Clay for Skin

Exfoliation is an essential part of any skincare routine. The market is stocked with physical and chemical scrubs. If you are looking for a gentler and natural exfoliator, you should consider rhassoul clay.

  • One of the many benefits of rhassoul clay is that it gently unclogs pores and attracts dead skin and toxins from your skin, leaving it supple and nourished.
  • Rhassoul clay deeply cleans the skin, removes blackheads, and tightens the pores. Since it has sebum controlling minerals, people with oily skin can also benefit from it. As it absorbs surface oil, you can keep those unwanted zits and pimples away from your skin.
  • Rhassoul clay is extremely versatile. It is perfect for both oily and dry skin. Psoriasis and eczema can irritate your skin. These conditions cause extreme dryness that can crack open your skin and make it bleed. The Moroccan clay has a soothing effect that helps with inflamed skin.

How to Use Rhassoul Clay?

You can incorporate rhassoul clay in your skincare and haircare routine in a variety of ways. Some of the ways are given below:

Relaxing Bath:

You can add a cup of this magical ingredient in your bathtub along with a few drops of your favorite essential oil. Soak in it for about 20 minutes. At the end of this session, you will feel relaxed and rejuvenated as the clay will soak all the toxins and dead skin from your body.

Hydrating Face Mask:

If you have dry skin, you can combine rhassoul clay with a few teaspoons of coconut milk or cream. This will create a moisturizing face mask that you can apply all over your face and neck or in the region affected by eczema. Keep it on for a few minutes and then rinse off with water.

Hair Cleanser:

If you want healthy and beautiful locks, ditch your chemical shampoo and use rhassoul clay to clean your hair. To turn it into a cleanser, combine rhassoul clay with rose water or bottled purified water. Wet your hair and massage this cleaner onto your scalp and hair. Rinse with cold water.

Anti-Dandruff Mask:

Combine the rhassoul clay with apple cider vinegar. Both the ingredients are known to remove any mineral build-up that might have been caused due to excess sebum production, hard water, or shampoo. Keep the mask in your hair for 10 minutes and then rinse off.

Deep Conditioning Hair Mask:

Combine equal parts of rhassoul clay, pure coconut oil and raw honey. Apply generously on your hair, especially the ends, and rinse after 5-10 minutes. This deep conditioning hair mask is perfect for those who are battling dry and brittle hair.

Conclusion

Rhassoul clay is full of minerals and active ingredients that can do wonders for your skin and hair. Rhassoul clay can make your natural hair and skin healthier.

I am honestly thankful to Advanced Hair Studios. I suffer from a hair-pulling disorder. There is this constant urge to pull off your hair follicles. It is painless when you pull but extremely painful when you see a missing patch on your scalp. But, I feel blessed with AHS hair fall treatment. I can see baby hair growing. It’s been two weeks. All I can see is low hair fall.

I have done my hair transplant surgery in AHS Delhi Branch on 2019 by travelling to Delhi from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The front and the back portion of my head were bald and through the hair transplant surgery, they have managed to cover the front portion of my head and the former appearance of my face returned back. The way they collected hairs from the donor portion did not affect my donor area at all. I am quite happy with my result. I have been consulting with them for a second seating so that they can cover the back portion of my head as well so that the hair density on top will increase and the bald portion of my head will reduce to a minimum level.
