People constantly struggle to maintain their hair, regardless of its length. They take great pains to avoid dry and frizzy hair and do everything they can to achieve luscious and smooth hair. They go for the perfect hair treatments and try out various home remedies; to achieve healthy and beautiful hair.

It’s also quite difficult to maintain the shine and health of hair due to our hectic, stressful lifestyles, pollution and long working hours. Hence, instead of going for long procedures, we find it easier to blow dry rather than pat-dry our hair. Also, it is commonly seen that people tend to neglect the long term consequences of blow drying hair which is not very good. Let’s find out how blow drying our hair makes them weak from inside:

Blow drying hurts hair

The biggest problem caused by hair dryers is all about temperature. A lot of harsh things happen to your hair when you point a too-hot hair dryer in your scalp.

First, moisture in the hair is all of a sudden heated to evaporation point. It creates high-pressure bubbles inside your hair as this water turns to steam which permanently damages its structure, leaving spots that are fragile and prone to breakage.

Blow drying hurts scalp

Your scalp can be damaged for the time being, as well. In the same way, as hot, dry air from a blow dryer removes water from your hair, it can remove water from your skin as well. That is a problem for people who are prone to flaky and dry scalp.

Blow drying with dandruff

Things can get a lot worse for people who have dandruff in their hair. When skin is healthy, it helps keep us properly hydrated, by regulating the amount of moisture that evaporates into the air.

Dandruff skin is unhealthy it happens when your skin cells are produced and shed too swiftly, that results in visible flakes of skin to appear. Research shows that dandruff skin is especially absorbent that allows too much water to escape from our skin, resulting in dryness. This makes people having dandruff especially vulnerable to the effects of blow drying that further dries out their skin.

How to blow dry safely

You don’t need to avoid your blow dryer completely, in order to avoid a crumbling scalp situation. Just be smart when you use it:

  • Remove excess water with a towel before blow drying, to shorten time using the dryer.
  • Keep your dryer at a lower heat setting so that it feels comfortable on the back of your hand.
  • Before blow drying use a heat protectant on your hair.
  • You can use products to keep your scalp in good condition, to help minimize the possible damage even further.
  • Remember to clean your brushes, as the buildup of hair gets unhygienic with time.
  • Use a good dry scalp shampoo in order to help keep your scalp healthy & moisturized.
