There can be a variety of factors responsible for hair loss, including:
Genes
Genes from both male and female parents are also said to influence a person's tendency to male or female pattern baldness.
Stress
Stress is also one of the common reasons for hair loss. If you are a patient of chronic depression or are under regular stress, then you are likely to lose hair.
Drugs
Sometimes the medicines that we are using for example: for blood pressure, chemotherapy, birth control pills, cancer treatment etc can cause temporary hair loss. Injuries, Burns and X-rays can cause temporary hair loss. Normal hair growth generally returns once the injury heals unless a scar is produced. In that case, hair will never regrow
Cosmetic procedures
To enhance their looks, people generally undergo a lot of cosmetic procedures such as bleaching, shampooing too often, perms, dyeing hair which adds to overall hair thinning by making hair weak and fragile.
Harsh hairstyles or treatments
Tight braiding, using hot curlers or rollers, and running hair picks through tight curls can also damage and break hair. Over time, these practices can cause severe damage to the hair or scalp sometimes causes permanent bald patches.
FUE Hair Transplantation
The FUE- Follicular Unit Hair Extraction is technically hair restoration procedure. In this procedure, the hair has to be transplanted from other parts of the scalp where the existing hair is thickest and placed carefully into the area where hair loss has occurred.
What happens during a hair transplant?
One of the most popular hair transplant technique is follicular unit extraction (FUE). In this procedure, the hair follicles are cut out directly from the back of the head through tiny punch.
- The surgeon uses a tiny area of your scalp where the hair transplant has to take place. They smoothly place hair in these areas.
- A surgeon may transplant hundreds or even thousands of hairs, during one treatment session.
- After, the follicular planting which was also originally termed as grafting, the experts would be covering your scalp for a few days.
- A hair transplant session can take four hours or more.
Expectations and Recovery
The scalp may be tender after the procedure for some period. You should ideally follow proper instructions and medications if any, for some days after the process as suggested by your team of experts. Your surgeon may also prescribe an anti-inflammatory drug or antibiotic for you to take for initial few days. Mostly, people are able to return to work within 2 to 5 days after the procedure.
The transplanted hair will fall out within 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, but you should start to notice new growth within a few months.
