Is There any Connection Between Collagen and Hair Loss?

Finding hair loss solutions:

In the year 2016 in the month of February, a team of researchers in Japan detected that dwindling collagen levels near hair follicle embryonic cells is associated to hair loss. The absence of this specific type of collagen, type XVII collagen, leads to the destruction of hair follicle DNA. Scientists have observed this occurrence in mice that were almost 18 months old, which is the age at which mice start to shred their hair. Older mice have thinner as well as fewer hair follicles in comparison to younger mice. The study revealed that hair loss was not so common in ageing mice which continued to produce collagen.

In mice that typically lacked type XVII collagen, the damaged embryonic cells ultimately turned into skin cells and were sloughed off just like dandruff. This lead to hair follicle shrinkage as well as hair loss. Scientists believe that the same mechanism also works on humans.

In an independent study of the human scalp, the Japanese researchers found that the hair follicles of women in their 50s or older were smaller in comparison to the hair follicles of women in their 30s as well as 40s. Scientists are delighted about these findings as it could help them find the cure for baldness other than hair replacement.

Collagen: How it Could Help Hair Loss

Collagen: How it Could Help Hair Loss

Collagen is recognized for helping to restore a youthful complexion, but its benefits are more than skin deep. Collagen is essential to healthy skin, hair, and nails and is also a naturally occurring protein in the body. Collagen is key to one’s hair quality and structurally reinforces it. It is the building block of the hair and surrounds each strand.

The fundamental component of hair is keratin protein, that is produced most effectively by the body when there is an adequate supply of amino acids in our bloodstream. This supply of amino acids can be raised by drinking a high-potency collagen supplement, as it is in no time absorbed by our small intestine. The amino acids present in the supplement are used by the hair follicle cells in order to produce this critical keratin protein.

Collagen also helps in increasing blood circulation in our body. Increased blood flow to our scalp is directly beneficial in boosting hair as well as scalp health. Another benefit is that our hair follicles would receive the required nutrients, which in turn assists our hair in growing faster.

Sadly, for many of us, as we age, our hair becomes coarse and dry. Consuming a high-potency collagen supplement can be helpful to treat dry, brittle hair as collagen increases the moisture level in hair and also aids in repairing the annoying split ends. An added bonus: collagen supplements often also help to reduce the prevalence of gray hair.

I am honestly thankful to Advanced Hair Studios. I suffer from a hair-pulling disorder. There is this constant urge to pull off your hair follicles. It is painless when you pull but extremely painful when you see a missing patch on your scalp. But, I feel blessed with AHS hair fall treatment. I can see baby hair growing. It’s been two weeks. All I can see is low hair fall.

I have done my hair transplant surgery in AHS Delhi Branch on 2019 by travelling to Delhi from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The front and the back portion of my head were bald and through the hair transplant surgery, they have managed to cover the front portion of my head and the former appearance of my face returned back. The way they collected hairs from the donor portion did not affect my donor area at all. I am quite happy with my result. I have been consulting with them for a second seating so that they can cover the back portion of my head as well so that the hair density on top will increase and the bald portion of my head will reduce to a minimum level.
