Having naturally curly hair is a blessing that many people often overlook. Wavy curly hair never looks dull. It always has life to it and never looks dull or flat. This hair type is thicker than straight hair, making it stronger. The same quality, however, makes it slightly high maintenance as well.

People with naturally wavy hair often complain about not having the right products or the right hair care routine to do justice to the texture of their hair. If you are one of them, this blog is for you.

Tips for Taking Care of Wavy Hair

When it comes to caring for curly or wavy hair, the goal is to keep the frizz under control without weighing your curls down. Here's all you need to know about keeping those beachy waves in place and giving your hair a more refined appearance.

1. Keep them well-hydrated

Hydration is the key, whether talking about your skin or hair. You should use shampoos and conditioners that clean your hair, hydrate, and prevent drying out.

2. Opt for a light clarifying shampoo

It's important not to use harsh shampoos as they can strip your hair of its natural oils, making it seem dull and rough. Make sure that you don't wash your curly and wavy hair too much since they are naturally coarse. Use a simple clarifying shampoo for every wash.

3. Condition your hair properly.

Due to the dry texture, curls and wavy hair need additional care in the form of conditioning and deep-conditioning, as has been said. Glycerine is an excellent moisturiser to look for in a curl-defining conditioner. Deep conditioning and feeding are essential to protect wavy curly hair from becoming dry and frizzy.

4. Say no to large hand towels.

You don't want to dry your hair with a rough, thick towel. To dry your hair, use a cotton towel or a micro-fibre towel. After washing your hair, pat it dry with a soft towel. This will ensure that not all the moisture has been absorbed from your curls. Drying your hair with a micro-fibre towel helps remove the extra water from your hair and helps define your curls.

As soon as you walk out of the shower, scrunch your hair with your hands to remove any remaining water.

5. Don’t go overboard with heating tools.

Heating tools are bad for every hair type, but they can do more harm to wavy curly hair. Heat styling is not only bad for wavy hair but also for every hair structure. Overuse of styling equipment can alter the texture of your hair strands, resulting in hair that is porous and has elevated cuticles. In addition to harming your hair, using heat styling tools like a straightener or curling iron increases the risk of breakage. These tools also break the moisture barrier of hair, making them look lifeless and unmanageable.

6. Keep a safe distance from heavy oils.

This may seem a little counterintuitive, but it's a key factor in preserving your precious natural wavy hair. Here’s the catch, your hair needs hydration and moisture, not greasiness. While using light bonding hair oils is advisable, the use of heavy oils would make your hair smothered. In addition to that, the heavy oils will heavy down on your hair, leading to hair fall.

7. Use a large-toothed comb.

Detangling your hair is essential for maintaining a healthy and beautiful appearance and preventing it from split ends. For wavy hair, a large-toothed comb is preferable over brushes and tiny combs for naturally wavy hair. Wide-toothed combs help minimise hair fall, untangle hair easily, prevent breaking and are gentler on the scalp.

8. Add volume to your hair with a hair mousse.

Make your waves seem fuller with a volume-enhancing hair mousse that doesn't leave behind a sticky or stiff residue. Use an egg-sized quantity of foam and apply to wet hair from root to tip. Turn your hair upside down and scrunch using your hands till you see some curve definition.

9. Use leave-in serums

Leave-in style serums are wonderful multi-taskers, and they may protect your hair from being frizzy while nourishing it at the same time. To strengthen and smooth each strand of hair, castor seed oil is typically used in these products. However, you must not use castor oil directly as it is heavy oil. Using one to two pumps of product, you may reduce frizz and flyaways by applying it to wet or dry hair.

10. Use a diffuser instead of a blow dryer.

Using the cup and hover approach, you may use a diffuser to blow dry your hair. This is the best option in terms of control as it offers you the most flexibility in the appearance you want to achieve. That's not all, as it also reduces the risk of damage due to heat. Start by applying a hair primer to your hair. Using your hand, cup your hair and pull it up to the diffuser, which is now hovering around your hairline.

11. Use cold water for rinsing.

Hot showers feel relaxing, but they are not good for your skin, particularly the skin of your scalp. Hot water strips your skin and hair strands of their natural oils. Some believe that high-temperature water helps you get rid of the grease and dirt from your hair. This is far from the truth. Use a light cleansing shampoo, a thick conditioner and cold water to lock in the moisture.

12. Choose chemical treatments wisely.

Before setting up the next appointment with your hair salon, make sure that you have done your research. From keratin treatment for wavy hair to bleaching and smoothening, there are several chemical treatments that you will find on the market. While you should not completely write off every treatment, most of them are just gimmicks. So, before you sit for your appointment, make sure that you are going for the right treatment.

Conclusion

Wavy curly hair is beautiful. This hair texture might require a longer maintenance time and special care, but once you understand your hair's needs, you will have voluminous strands that don’t require any styling. I am honestly thankful to Advanced Hair Studios. I suffer from a hair-pulling disorder. There is this constant urge to pull off your hair follicles. It is painless when you pull but extremely painful when you see a missing patch on your scalp. But, I feel blessed with AHS hair fall treatment. I can see baby hair growing. It’s been two weeks. All I can see is low hair fall.

I have done my hair transplant surgery in AHS Delhi Branch on 2019 by travelling to Delhi from Dhaka, Bangladesh. The front and the back portion of my head were bald and through the hair transplant surgery, they have managed to cover the front portion of my head and the former appearance of my face returned back. The way they collected hairs from the donor portion did not affect my donor area at all. I am quite happy with my result. I have been consulting with them for a second seating so that they can cover the back portion of my head as well so that the hair density on top will increase and the bald portion of my head will reduce to a minimum level.
